Bike The Manhattan Waterfront Greenway

A great ride along the 32 mile cycling path following the shoreline of Manhattan Island, past amazing views along the East and Harlem Rivers northbound and the Hudson River southbound. Most portions of the Greenway are on bike paths through parks or other recreational spaces, however, there are several significant portions where we will be riding with motor traffic. We will be stopping at various points during the ride, including at Bike Expo New York, where riders registered for the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour can pick up their identification packets. Bike Norwottuck Rail Trail, Northampton MA

The 24 mile ride is on flat terrain over an abandon railroad linking Northampton, Hadley and Amherst. We will begin by traveling across the historic 1,492 foot iron bridge with views of Elwell Island below. To the South we will have a great view of the Holyoke Range and to the East we will see the flood control dikes establishes after the 1938 flood. A portion of the ride will take us to the Amherst College, University of Massachusetts campuses and other historic sites. We will enjoy lunch at a trail side Deli market or you may bring a lunch.
Directions: I-91 No. to exit 19, Northampton. @ TL go straight across, parking lot is on the right.

An Urban Hiking Adventure in New York City - Downtown (with a visit to One World Observatory)

Includes: admission to One World Observatory A fast paced and exciting 6 - 8 mile walking tour of the Big Apple, past many famous sights and landmarks. We will carpool to Brooklyn and walk to lower Manhattan. Our specific itinerary is dependent on the day’s weather and traffic, as well as group interest and stamina. We may use various forms of transport including subways, ferries, trams and Citibikes before the day is done. Towards the end of our adventure, we’ll ascend to the top of One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, to experience the unforgettable view. Bike The Best of the Shoreline, Stonington/Mystic CT

Starting location: I–95 Exit 91 CPL (Rt. 234) in Stonington
This 33 mile ride is mostly flat and visits many points along the eastern shoreline with sensational views of Fishers Island Sound. The ride passes through the scenic town of Mystic (both going and returning), travels west for a stop at Groton Long Point and Noank before heading east to the village of Stonington and Stonington Point. We then proceed east to the Barns Island Wildlife Management area boat launch before returning.
Directions: I-95 North to exit 91 to CPL.

Bike The Farmington Greenway - 5 Towns

Starting location: Tunxis Mead Park in Farmington and encompasses Unionville, Collinsville, Canton, Simsbury and Avon. A very scenic 29 mile ride with mostly flat terrain and a couple of moderate but no killer hills. Starting from the West loop of the paved bike path biking towards Unionville, we will ride along the Farmington River to Collinsville where you can observe some historic 1955 flood devastation. Riding on back streets along the reservoir, we proceed to Canton and then to Simsbury where you ride throught Stratton Brook Forest and State Park and then pick up the East loop of the greenway through Avon and back to Farmington Tunxis Meade Park.
Directions from I-84: Take Exit 39 to Rt. 4 West to the Center of Farmington. Turn left/South on Route 10. At 2nd traffic light turn right on Meadow Rd. for approximately one mile and bear right on Red Oak Hill Rd. to Tunxis Mead Park.

Hike the CT Appalachian Trail - Bear Mountain, Salisbury CT

At 2316 ft, Bear Mountain is the highest peak in Connecticut and offers one of the prettiest vistas in the state. It's a beautiful but harder 6.7 mile hike partly on the famous Appalachian Trail, with some rock scrambling involved. Bike Historic Windsor, East Windsor and South Windsor

This primarily flat 27 mile ride starts at Windsor Locks Dexter Plaza Parking Lot Rt. 159/Main St. From Windsor Locks we will cross over into East Windsor and ride by some farm land on our way to South Windsor's historic district, beginning at the Old Ferry Site along Old Main St with its lovely homes and picture perfect landscape. We will then cross over the Bissell Bridge Bike Trail to Windsor and ride through the Loomis Chaffee School Campus on our way to Barts Drive In & Restaurant on the Farmington River for lunch/snack stop. You may either purchase or bring a lunch and use the picnic facilities by the river. Leaving Barts, we will proceed through the Windsor' Historic district and back to Windsor Locks.
Directions: From I-91 take exit 45 Rt. 140/Bridge St. Go West about 1 mile, cross bridge into Windsor Locks and turn left on Rt. 159/Main St. at traffic light just after the Rail Road Tract to Dexter Plaza 500 feet on your right. Park near the road across from Ocean Job Lot.

Bike Lake Congamond - Simsbury CT to Southwick MA

A ride led by Russ Curtiss, Leader Emeritus. We will ride a combination of bike paths and back roads from Simsbury CT to Southwick MA and back (about 31 mostly flat miles). Plan on bringing a snack to eat at the gazebo in Lake Congamond Park. There is also an ice cream stop near the lake on the route back. After the ride, we go to The Maple Tree Cafe for food and conversation. We should finish the ride around 2-3 pm. The cafe is on Hopmeadow Street (Routes 10/202) about 1/2 mi. North from the Park/Ride Lot.
Directions: Meet at the Iron Horse Park/Ride Lot at the corner of Drake Hill Road and Iron Horse Blvd in Simsbury.
Use your GPS or a map to find the intersection of Routes 10/202 and 185 in Simsbury. Then go north on 10/202 (Hopmeadow Street) toward Simsbury Center. After 1.8 mi turn right onto Drake Hill Road, turn first left onto Iron Horse Blvd, turn first left into the parking lot, and then drive back left toward Drake Hill Road inside that parking lot to meet up at the far end.

Bike Suffield/Congamond, Suffield CT

This pleasant 27 mile ride is mostly over flat terrain starting from Suffield Village shopping plaza, riding West to Congamond Lake in Southwick, Ma. We will get some neat views of the Suffield countryside and with some luck we should get some beautiful foliage along the route. We will option a lunch at Red Robbin or @ the park by the lake.
Directions: Take I-91 to Exit 40, Route 20. Take the second exit to Rt 75 / Ella Grasso Tpke. and turn right on 75. Stay on Rt. 75 for about five miles past the airport to the junction of Rt. 168 in Suffield. Driveway into the plaza is on the right after the traffic light.
