New York State's Adirondack Park is a natural wilderness unlike any other. Created in 1892, the park is a constitutionally protected Forever Wild area spanning six million acres. Covering 1/5 of New York, it is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. There are over 2000 miles of designated hiking trails in the Lake Placid Region providing access to spectacular views of the Adirondacks 46 High Peaks.
This Outdoor Adventure is for hikers seeking 4 to 8 mile treks that explore all the beauty of the region. We plan to do two half-day and two full-day moderate routes on this hiking weekend.
We will be staying in the second floor loft in the famous Adirondak Loj (Lodge) on Heart Lake. Built in 1927, The Loj provides delicious home-cooked meals, with homemade breads, soups, and desserts, served in the rustic dining room. The comfortable lounge with its stone fireplace is perfect for recounting the day’s adventures or just relaxing with a book from our Adirondack library.
The loft is a large 12-person co-ed room with 12 single beds. The loft has a bright and roomy feel due to the added light from skylights and windows overlooking Heart Lake. Each bed has bedside shelving, coat hooks, and linens and towels are provided. There is a small changing room for privacy, and all rooms share a common set of bathrooms.
If you are looking for an opportunity to experience some real Adirondack hiking, this is the trip for you.
