September 6th-9th, 2019

Beautiful Southern Maine offers an excellent opportunity to cycle through parts of its most scenic locations with this adventure. On Friday, September 6, 2019 we will depart on a cycling trip to the Portland region that includes joining the very famous Eastern Trail Alliance Annual Ride to see the Lighthouse’s along the Maine coast. This extraordinary event has been widely acclaimed as the most picturesque cycling event offered in Maine. Participation is limited to 1200 cyclists and it is filled annually. Outdoor Adventures has secured 15 spots for the 2019 event.

We will start our adventure departing from the Hartford area on Friday, September 6th and plan to be in Freeport in time for lunch. Following lunch we will cycle in the Freeport area for approximately 20 miles, ending with shopping time at LL Bean’s.

We will continue to what is best described as the “Perfect Getaway!” The Five Star Spring Point Inn located at Southern Maine Community College’s (SMCC) picturesque South Portland Campus. The Inn has spectacular ocean views and very comfortable rooms. We will spend 3 nights at this location. Continental breakfast, free WiFi and cable TV with HBO, private baths, elevator service, iron and ironing board, hair dryers and parking are included at the Inn.

Following check in and a change of clothing we will have dinner at a famous local restaurant, included in your package.

On Saturday, September 7th we will begin our Tour of the Lighthouses, starting and returning to the SMCC campus. The rides offered cover 25, 40, 60 or 100 miles and you can chose what course you would like to take. Your leaders will most likely opt for a 25 or 40 mile ride depending on the experience of the group. The more miles you ride, the more lighthouse’s you see. The rides are all well marked and you can do more or less depending on your biking ability. We conclude this exciting day with a traditional Maine Lobster Bake - included in your package as well!

On Sunday a ride in the area is being finalized and details will be included for those that sign up.

On Monday, September 9th we will check out and start toward home, stopping in Kennebunkport for a neat 20 mile ride that circles the coast and includes riding by the Bush Family Estate.

We expect this trip to fill quickly as it offers excellent biking, super lodging, Maine coastline views and the chance to see the lighthouses Maine is so famous for.
