This twelve day trip will begin with a flight from Hartford/Bradley via Dublin, transferring to Hamburg. We will have ground transportation from the airport to the hotel, enjoy lunch and a guided tour of city before checking in. On Friday the 29th we will enjoy more of the historic city of Hamburg before traveling with arranged ground transportation approximately 1hour 30 minutes directly to the harbor Kiel-Holtenau and our Tall Ship Atlantis.
On board the Atlantis we will navigate our way to several harbor towns and quiet bays, followed by the active exploration of beautiful landscapes by bike. More often than not, the boat will continue sailing, while we are busy spinning our pedals, in order to meet up at our next destination. The Danes proudly refer to this enchanting mix of endless sandy beaches, brilliantly-white chalk cliffs, countless islands and small harbor towns with colorful houses as “Our South Sea!”
While biking our tour guide will lead us through beautiful settings and to the most important local sights. In preparation for each cycle tour, we will learn the distance and difficulty of each ride. There are electric bikes available but will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis.
On our day of arrival we will meet the crew and other guests, settle into our cabins, learn about the features of the Atlantis and enjoy a light evening meal.
We cast off and sail all day in the direction of the island of Mon. Sailing enthusiasts can actively take part in the sailing of the ship. For those who would rather watch, there is enough space in which to enjoy the fresh sea breeze or to settle down with a book, or converse with friends and other guests. Our ship takes us to the little harbor town Klintholm on the island of Mon.
(27 miles) After breakfast our first cycle tour takes across the island of Mon. The cliffy coast of Kling is truly a highlight. The chalk cliff at the eastern part of the island is 128 m high and we can enjoy the amazing view’s across the Baltic Sea. Upon our return we cast off for Koge, one of the best preserved middle age towns of Denmark.
(22 miles) We cycle from Koge, situated in the south of Copenhagen, to the Royal City of Roskilde. Around noon we arrive at Koge located along the unique and winding Roskilde Fjord. We walk to the cities mighty cathedral, a protected UNESCO World Heritage site. We stroll along the harbor for a while, before taking the train to Copenhagen, where the Atlantis is waiting for us in front of Copenhagen castle.
(16 miles) A visit to the little mermaid! The balance of the day is spent being a tourist in Copenhagen. It is a multi-faceted city: palaces, island, colorful Christiania, the Royal Garden and Rosenborg Castle, a charming old town center as well as some Mediterranean flair. It is one of the cycle-friendliest cities of Europe. Your leaders will discuss options for how to spend the day after conferring with our tour guide!
We wave ”Goodby” to the Little Mermaid ponderingly sitting on her rock in the harbor. The Danish Riviera escorts us for a while as we navigate towards Samso.
(34 miles) Samso, the sunny island of Denmark, is almost unknown. Its peaceful atmosphere will put a spell on you. A ride in the dinghy brings us to KIolby Kas or Ballen Havn. Our cycle tour takes us to Tranebjerg with a stop for lunch in Ballebjerg. In the afternoon we cast a glance at the archipelago with its bird reserve, Stavens Fjord. Back at the Atlantis in the afternoon we head south. Dinner in the harbor of Nyborg on the Island of Funen.
(28 milels) On our way out of town we pass the defiant castle of Nyborg and head south in the direction of the sun. Our first stop is a traditional mill, while the Atlantis leaves the harbor. We pass the impressive Holckenhavn castle and will enjoy our lunch close to the sea. We continue cycling till the Skaruport sound, where we embark the Atlantis by dinghy. We enjoy a sail across the sound to the natural harbor of Svendborg. Charming street cafes invite us to stay awhile, enjoy and relax!
(35 miles) The island of AEro appears like a pocket-sized Denmark. Along our route we pass by tiny villages with colorful houses sprouting thatched roofs. An impressive cliff coast at Vorderup Klint offers a wide view across the sea as well as a lovely spot for a break. We get to AEroskobing around lunch time. No place is more romantic than the islands capital. Narrow lanes, metre high hollyhocks, marketplace with old water pumps and the list goes on! We take a stroll around and enjoy. We hop back on board the Atlantis in Soby in the afternoon and set sails while heading to Kiel.
KKiel-Holtenau - After an extensive breakfast it’s time to say goodbye to the crew, ship and travel companions. We will be met by private transportation and taken to the Airport for our return to the United States.

NOTE: We expect this trip to sell out and must have your commitment by October 15th. A $1,000 deposit is required by October 31st to hold your space. That is the latest date and best terms we were able to negotiate to have the space reserved as this is a trip that Island Hopping sells out quickly.
This is an excellent opportunity to experience life on a comfortable Tall Ship, helping set the 17 sails and getting experience as a “deck hand” if you so desire! Reading, enjoying the lounge or deck while under sail will be relaxing and exciting. The destinations are breathtaking, the time of year comfortable, and the cycling looks very appealing. We are excited to offer this opportunity as a different experience and to a destination we have not previously experienced.
(Travel Insurance is required for this trip)
