If you have always wanted the ultimate White Mountains hut-to-hut experience, then this is the trip for you. We will climb several mountains over 4,000 feet, including Galehead, Garfield, Lafayette and South Twin.
Our journey will take us from the lovely Greenleaf Hut to the remote Galehead Hut and the beautiful Zealand Falls Hut, finally ending at the Highland Center at Crawford Notch.
Our first day will begin with a steep 2.9-mile hike up to Greenleaf Hut on the Old Bridle Path Trail. With its many outlooks, this trail affords us fine views of the Walker Ravine below. On day two, a challenging 6.6-mile trek will take us to the summit of Mount Lafayette, which offers a
panoramic view into both the Pemigewassett Wilderness and back down into Franconia Notch. We’ll then pick up the Garfield Ridge Trail, climbing to the peak of Mount Garfield with its incredible 360-degree view of range upon range of mountains. We’ll dip back below tree line as
we approach Galehead Hut for our second night stay. On our third day, we’ll hike 7 miles along the Twinway, climbing up South Twin Mountain and then out to the unmatched views at Zeacliff before descending to Zealand Falls Hut. We have a rest stop at Zealand to take in the beautiful
views of the falls. We’ll then continue out to our cars on the relatively easy 2.3-mile Zealand Trail, a path that passes through beaver swamps, meadows and ponds. Our last night will be spent at the AMC’s Highland Center, with hot showers, crackling fireplace and comfy beds!
Each hut offers comfortable bunk room accommodations and full-service breakfasts and dinners prepared by the friendly and knowledgeable hut staff.
This is a strenuous advanced level trip for very experienced hikers only.
